Wonderful Weekends: Gardening with the Kids

This weekend  was the ‘little Sporty Family’s’ first one back in Canberra after our lovely holiday on the Far North Coast of NSW. It usually takes me a little time to readjust to being back in Canberra…Cooking my own meals, doing housework, paying bills and being away from my family……the morning temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius didn’t do much to help my holiday-sickness!!

On Saturday we were up bright and early, back into the swing of things, for an athletics carnival. As we were rushing out the door GrumpyDaddy asked  "…should we take jumpers?..” “...Don’t be silly...”,  I said, “....It’s Summer....”…….and how wrong I was!! We shivered our way through the first part of the carnival, wishing for a jumper, or a blanket, or thermal underwear!!

The sun appeared around mid-morning and we all returned from the carnival exhausted, satisfied and, perhaps ironically…..a little sun burnt L Sometimes red-hair can be a curse!

Here is one of my favorite photos from the day, My daughter enjoying a much deserved sunnyboy at the end of the carnival.

There are more photos of the athletics carnival here

On Sunday, we all spent some time tidying up the garden. Even in Canberra, the grass and weeds reached epic proportions while we were away. The kids were really enthusiastic and excited to get involved. But there was no hard labor for them. Oh, no…. they just wanted to do the pretty stuff! In fact, they emptied out their piggy banks and demanded that we take them to the garden shop to buy some flowers. They were so sincere, cute  and keen, that we just couldn’t refuse!

Here is the result of ‘their’ labors…Not quite the Native Australian garden that GrumpyDaddy once envisaged....

I’m linking this post with Sonia at life love and hiccups for Wonderful Weekends. Pop over and see what other 's got upto on their weekends! I'm also linking up with Sunny + Scout, for Point + shoot...come and take a peek!

  1. I love when the whole family gets in the garden together.
It makes it seem so much less like 'work'.
    Beautiful flowers - and kids.

  2. The flowers look amazing for me right now. It's frigid in the Midwestern region of the states! However, this winter has been much more mild than in recent years. Thinking back to this past summer, we were pretty chilly here too. We went camping and the nights got really cold even in the hottest parts of summer. I hope your garden grows lovely :)

  3. Your garden looks MUCH healthier than ours! Our lawn is scorched and our tomato plants are looking a bit wilted.
