Friday Fences: The Bush Capital

Whilst we were on holiday, we took the kids  to see the mountains and rain forests of the Far North Coast of NSW. Now that we are back home in Canberra, we took them for a day trip to the Tidbinbilla/Brindabella ranges.

These mountains were  ravaged by a bush fire fire storm 9 years ago (to the day, coincidently) and the scares on the landscape are still very obvious.

Up in the mountains there is a beautiful little waterfall called Gibraltar falls. In the rushing water, I just caught a glimpse of a rainbow.....

There is an absolutely amazing contrast between the lush rainforests and the dry Australian bush of the National Capital, CanberraCanberra was a planned city and sometimes I wish they had planned it to be near the beach…or not so cold…. and sometimes not so hot!

But in it’s own way, the country side around Canberra has it’s own beauty and charm. The sky seems to be painted with a lighter blue and the scenery is in shades of yellow, brown and dark green. It reminds me of Australian folklore, of bushrangers and brumbies.

I guess that’s why it’s known as the Bush Capital

It's Friday Fences day so I'm linking up with Life According to Jan and Jer, where you'll find lots of wonderful and creative photos...through a fence!

  2. Love that little waterfall, and I can see the rainbow! Ottawa, the capital of Canada, was a little logging town when Queen Victoria chose it to be the nation's capital. Well off the beaten track...

  4. Thank you for sharing photos from a country I would LOVE to visit someday! It is definitely on my bucket list, but alas, I fear I will never make it! The photos were lovely - you have captured many of my favorite subjects - mountains, water, fences, countryside. Beautiful job today!

  5. Some very familiar landscapes here, SM. Many moons ago I lived in Canberra, during the days of the 1975 constitutional crisis. It was a heady period.

I enjoyed your fences, and have generally had a scritch around your blog. Shall add you to my blogroll right now. Nice to meet you.

  14. Perhaps because the countryside there is so different from what I'm used to I find the area around the Bush Capital quite intriguing.

  16. It's just fascinating to be able to see photos of so many places in the world that are so different from my own landscapes. Love to travel and see these with my own eyes but sharing photos is wonderful as well. I'm trying to figure out your vantagepoint for the waterfall photo--standing on your head? :-) What a beautiful shot.
